Training for CIM
A short checkpoint on marathon training, patience, and doing the boring aerobic work.
I am training for the California International Marathon in December. The goal is simple to write down and much less simple to execute: arrive fit enough to run hard without turning every week into a test.
Most of the work is intentionally unremarkable. Mileage, controlled threshold work, long runs, fueling practice, strength training, and enough restraint to let the accumulation matter.
The useful part
Hot and humid training has made pace a noisy input, so heart rate and effort have been more useful than chasing the number I want to see on the watch. That is not especially exciting, but it is probably the lesson I need most right now.
I will use this site for occasional checkpoints rather than turning every run into content.
